Meiners Oaks Flood Protection

Meiners Oaks Flood Protection

Flood protection for the community of Meiners Oaks currently depends on a non-engineered berm that extends along the east bank of Ventura River from the Robles Diversion Facility to approximately 4,200 feet downstream.

This berm provides limited flood protection to rural residential properties in low-lying areas of the floodplain. It is not expected to withstand a 100-year flood and does not meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements.

Intermediate design plans for a conventional engineered levee are currently on hold pending the selection of a preferred alternative for the Robles Diversion Modifications. As that work continues, a variety of potential alternatives for improved flood protection and/or flood risk mitigation at Meiners Oaks are also being developed. Once the Robles design path is clear, integrated design plans for Meiners Oaks will be finalized in order to meet federal safety requirements, and to provide sufficient flood protection and/or flood risk mitigation before, during, and after dam removal.
